West End Commemorates 125th Anniversary with $3.4 M Fundraising Campaign

WILMINGTON – West End Neighborhood House, Inc., is pleased to announce that it has met approximately 75 percent of its ambitious $3.4 million Capital Campaign fundraising goal on June 8. The Capital Campaign kicked off in early 2008 to celebrate its 125th anniversary and to raise money for a variety of services that benefit a growing number of Delawareans in need. West End currently serves 11,000 people annually.

With $2.5 of the $3.4 million already secured, mostly from private foundations, corporations and government agencies throughout Delaware, West End is reaching out into the community to raise the remaining 25 percent. Although their public request for donations just began, West End’s appeal has already been met with overwhelming support from local residents, community leaders and small business owners.

“Our fundraising success is especially exciting in light of the current economic climate,” said Monica Alvarez, Director of Development at West End, “the support we’ve received so far really speaks to the respect and trust the community has for our organization.”

Of the $3.4 million raised, $1 million will be allocated for an 11 unit home for former foster care youth participating in the Life Lines Program, $1 million will go toward continuing Cornerstone West’s successful community revitalization and affordable housing efforts, and the remaining $1.4 million will be used for improvement projects, such as installing upgraded technology and energy efficient equipment, at West End.

“West End has always been a leader when it comes to meeting the changing needs of the community,” said Sonia S. Sloan, a friend and consultant of West End for three Capital Campaigns over the course of 20 years, “This is a critical time for community service centers because the number of people in need is increasing so rapidly. The community has been very supportive so far and I’m confident they will help West End meet their final goal.”
